01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At Cafe & Bar Auru Second Floor, one of the pleasures of ordering omurice is choosing the rice inside. The options include classic ketchup-seasoned rice, pilaf-style butter rice, curry rice and a “black” version made with fried rice and a black-vinegar sauce. Each costs 1,000 yen, or 1,300 yen with cheese. If you’re unsure, you could start with the traditional ketchup flavour or try “white”, the butter-rice-style option.
One diner who had the “red” version at lunch described its egg as neatly rolled rather than soft and runny, with a clean, light flavour. On another visit, a diner chose the butter-rice-style “white” and enjoyed it with the egg and ketchup. Adding cheese is another way to bring extra richness to any of the rice options. One review mentioned that the lunchtime omurice came with salad and soup; another diner praised the satisfying pairing of omurice with tonjiru, a hearty pork soup.
The menu also includes cheese doria, Napolitan-style spaghetti, curry rice and tonjiru, and one report describes visiting for a meal alone. This Hatagaya cafe and bar serves coffee, tea and alcoholic drinks, too. You can stop in for lunch or come by in the evening for small dishes and drinks, and takeaway is available.
